Time is subjective
This project focuses on the life cycle and relationship with time of the swamp cypress, one of the trees that can live the longest. Its longevity is the source of myths and folklore in the heart of the Everglades.
Time is a fascinating question. Too often, we take it to be a universal and objective concept but it is exactly the opposite; time is subjective, it is internal and singular to everything in this world and to every living being. Human time is not the same as plant time, nor is it the same as stone time. The time of trees is longer and imperceptible to the naked eye for us humans. Yes, we can see the results of time passing through the seasons, but we are unable to see nature metamorphose, unable to grasp the constant movement of nature, however minute it may be.
To be able to observe the evolution of a tree not as an interval but as a continuity, made a flipbook of the growth of the needles and a pine cone of a swamp cypress. By illustrating the creation, growth and opening of a bud, this animation attempts to make the tree's time visible by showing in 6 seconds what it does in 6 months.
Trop souvent, nous le prenons comme un concept universel et objectif. neanmoins, c'est tout le contraire. Le temps est subjectif, il est interne et singulier à chaque chose en ce monde et à chauqe être vivant. Le temps des Hommes n'est pas le meme que le temps des végétaux, qui n'est pas le même que celui des pierres.
Ce projet ce concentre sur le cycle de vie et sur le rapport au temps qu'entretien le swamp cyprès, il s'agit d'un des arbres qui peu vivre le plus longtemps. Sa longévité est d'ailleurs à l'origine de mythes et de folklores au coeur des Everglades.
Le temps des arbres est plus long et imperceptible à l'oeil nu pour nous humain, oui nous constatons les résultat que produit le temps qui passe à travers les saisons mais nous sommes incapable de voir la nature se métamorphoser, imossible de saisir le mouvement constant de la nature, aussi infime qu'il soit
En illustrant la création, la pousse puis l'ouverture d'un bourgeon, cette animation tente de rendre visible le temps de l'arbre en montrant en 6 secondes ce que ce dernier effectue en 6 mois
